About Merit Access

The concept for Merit Access began in 2017 when the owner,  Nina Owens became the primary caregiver of her beloved grandfather.  The decision did not come lightly as it was immediately understood that her future would be very different. Already having had years of experience in healthcare and studying to become a nurse, Nina felt qualified to care for him. However, it was after the assurance and support of family that she undertook this great commitment.

Unsurprisingly,  navigating her new life scheduling doctors appointments and therapies was at times confusing and challenging. Figuring out each obstacle took time,  research, and energy. Ensuring the quality of life for another individual proved to be a momentous task resulting in multiple burnouts. Nina and her family obtained various assistive services, but through study of the market It became obvious that  practical resources for the "in between" moments were not available. The conceptual seed of Merit Access grew during this time of searching to ease the pressure of caregiving.

Of course, life moved forward without a solution and Nina and her family managed the best they could. Her "Grandpoppy", as he was affectionately called lived at home in his final days, he will always be loved and he is missed. The privilege of having cared for him is a blessing that Nina is grateful to have experienced.

Later on, after gaining experience as a nurse, reflecting on the challenges seniors face, and with the desire to serve others in similar circumstances Nina launched Merit Access in early 2024.  Her desire is for seniors living at home alone, a facility or being cared for by loved ones to be well supported at every stage. You may hire three or four different  providers to make up the care offered at Merit Access, but you will be hard to find a more committed or sincere team. Merit Access is dedicated to serving seniors and their families in a way that Nina could only wish for when caring for Grandpoppy during his last years.
