About Merit Access

The inspiration for Merit Access began in 2017, when founder Nina Owens stepped into the role of primary caregiver for her beloved grandfather, affectionately known as Grandpoppy. Choosing to care for him was not a decision taken lightly—it meant reshaping her future. With years of healthcare experience and a nursing career in progress, Nina felt prepared. But it was only with the support of her family that she embraced the full weight of this deeply personal commitment.

Navigating daily caregiving—coordinating doctor’s appointments, managing therapies, and making countless small but vital decisions—proved both confusing and exhausting. Despite her background, Nina quickly realized that caring for a loved one at home was more than a full-time job—it was a maze of emotional, logistical, and physical challenges. Her journey included moments of burnout, frustration, and deep love. Though her family accessed various services, Nina noticed a clear gap: there were no accessible resources for the “in-between” moments—those day-to-day needs that fall outside traditional care models.

From this need, the idea for Merit Access began to grow. It started as a wish—to make caregiving more manageable, more human, and more supported.

Though no perfect solution came during her grandfather’s lifetime, Nina and her family did their best. Grandpoppy remained at home during his final days, surrounded by love. His memory continues to be a source of inspiration. The opportunity to care for him was a profound gift, and Nina has carried that experience forward ever since.

After becoming a nurse and reflecting on the challenges that seniors and caregivers face every day, Nina officially launched Merit Access in early 2024. Her vision is simple yet powerful: to provide the kind of comprehensive, compassionate support that she once wished for her own family.
